The Amityville Kitchen

I know the title of this post sounds like the latest in a string of questionable sequels to The Amityville Horror, but this is actually about a kitchen. I am a house nut, which helps explain part of the reason for my obsession with this story, and horror fan or not you have to admit 112 Ocean Avenue is a great house. As much as it pains me the owners who have lived there in the decades since the DeFeos have updated the home to meet the needs of modern living. Personally I love a kitsch mid-century/70s house but not everyone does. Recently the horror house changed hands again and new owners immediately made some changes. Lucky for us the design firm that did the work shared the before and after photos with the interwebs.

Next Amityville film is complete!

According to those in the know, Dimension’s new Amityville film is done and they are preparing a trailer. No word on when we will see it but I have my money on Halloween. The rumor mill also has revealed that the movie has a new name as well.

First it was Amityville: The Lost Tapes, then it became just Amityville. Now the movie is called Amityville: The Awakening. Makes me wonder if this is a reboot of sorts and might be setting up another series of movies. A guy can hope!

Amityville: The Awakening, starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bella Thorne arrives in theaters January 2, 2015.

Dimension’s “Amityville” gets a release date!

Dimension Films announced that their addition to the eternal Amityville franchise entitled simply “Amityville” will hit US theaters on Friday January 2, 2015. This movie, starring Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bella Thorne, started out at a found footage movie called “Amityville: The Lost Tapes”. Reportedly that script was discarded in favor of a fresh new story involving a single mother (Leigh) who moves into 112 Ocean Avenue with her kids.

Here’s what producer Jason Blum had to say about the project:

“It’s a departure. It’s not inspired. It’s not a retelling of the original Amityville story. That’s all I’m saying. What we did with Amityville is I sat down with Frank and I said, ‘I’m excited to do this because everyone is really cynical about it and thinks it’s going to be terrible. I like being the underdog, so let’s do it.’ But I said, ‘Let’s do something that will be completely unexpected because everyone’s walking into it rolling their eyes.’ You’ll tell me on January 3rd if we did that, but I think we came up with something.”
